Maternity Must Haves

Ah, the sweet months spent carrying that little bundle of joy.  The growing belly, the disappearing waist, the bigger bust…all of these things present a challenge to your wardrobe.  Never mind the fact that your body in the first trimester is completely different than the third trimester.

Now, I have been pregnant three times–and I feel like I’ve grown smarter with my wardrobe each time.  Here is what I have learned over the 27ish months I have been pregnant.

*A good pair of jeans is worth a lot of money.  You’ll wear them constantly, and it’s important to feel good in them.  However, don’t buy them until about 18 weeks or so.  Try to get buy with cheaper jeans or the old rubber band trick up until that point.

*Gap Pure Body T-Shirts are amazing.

*Don’t spend a lot of money.  You wear this stuff long enough to get sick of it, but not long enough to justify spending a fortune.

*Jackets in normal sizes work so well over maternity shirts–and add a bit of “non-pregnant” style to your outfit.  I like jackets with collars that stand up or are structural or asymmetrical in some way.

*Long tank tops extend the life of your regular shirts at least 3-4 weeks.

*Skinny black pants with a longer shirt look amazing!  Don’t believe me?  Try it.

*Stripes, cowl necks, etc. are great.  Anything to add some interest, texture, or style.

*Big necklaces make you instantly feel and look put together.  Someone told me this at the very beginning of my first pregnancy–and it has been the best piece of pregnancy advice to date!
