no brainer wardrobe :: day 18 the “go to” outfit

The Go To Outfit

I cannot overstate the importance of having an outfit that you feel great in, no questions asked.  It should be simple, easy, and truly the epitome of “no brainer”.  If you analyze your own closet, it is probably the outfit that gets worn straight out of the clean laundry basket.  You probably throw it on when you want to be guaranteed to look lovely.  You probably feel quite thoroughly you when you put it on.

My Go To Outfit

At the moment, I don’t have a true “go to” outfit.  I have a 5 month old, which means that my entire fall wardrobe is 2 years old.  :)  This is a big hole in my wardrobe, and I can’t wait to fill it.  I have a feeling it will involve black skinnies, some kind of stripe, my gray riding boots, and a cowl of some sort.  The sounds like the most perfectly me and perfectly fall outfit.

Fellow Bloggers’ Go To Outfits

Lindsay from Aisle to Aloha gets to live in the fabulous Hawaii with her serviceman Husband.  She has this to say about her favorite go to outfit.

There’s no doubt that living in Hawaii is amazing, except when I’m yearning for some crisp fall weather! Oh to wear boots and jeans again! To satiate my need for cozy, I throw on my go-to denim cutoffs and cozy up my outfit with a comfy fall scarf. It’s my favorite outfit for bike-riding with my man on cool evenings, hanging out on the lanai with friends or photographing surfers at sunset. I’ll be excited to throw on those boots again when we move someday, but for now, I’ll work with what I’ve got and use those cool trade winds to my scarf-wearing advantage!

Rachael from Letters to Ames is the momma to 3 littles under 2!!  Yes, that includes a set of beautiful twin girls.  I think she shoud get a medal for even getting dressed in the morning!!  She says this about her go to outfit,

I like this outfit because it’s easy…Easy to pick out, put on, wear all day, nurse babies in, go out in public in, etc. etc. etc!  I don’t have to shave before I wear it. I don’t have to shower before I wear it.  It doesn’t really match, but I like it anyway. It makes me feel somewhat put together without effort.  All I do is apply a bit of lipstick and skip out on the rest of my makeup/jewelry… the headwrap is fancy enough!

And then we have Brooke from Pure and Noble, who is a genius when it comes to finding estate sale scores.  She can take something I would pass over as too grandma and style it into something fabulous.  On her go to outfit,

This is hands down one of my favorite outfits to wear. It’s easy, comfortable, and a bit edgy. It’s not your run of the mill t-shirt and jeans, but it’s just that comfy. If it’s cold out and I’m headed out to dinner with friends or the hubs, I just swap my shoes for black suede wedge boots, throw on some gold earrings and grab my vintage brown croc clutch. So easy and versatile…I love it.

The jacket was a thrift store find for $3.95.  The shirt, another thrift store score. I’ve had it in my closet for years – she’s been good to me.  Skinnies are from The Gap, clearance section.  The shoes were scored at Nordstrom Rack for a steal.  As you can see, I’m not one to drop a lot of cash on my wardrobe. I think you can look and feel like a million bucks without spending a lot.

I love these–they are all “real” clothes!

I had to think a second, but my “go to” outfit is : a long sleeve dark gray stretch T, washes up like a dream and never wrinkles; dark boot-cut Rider jeans from Wal-mart–I have never found jeans that fit as well as these; my dark Eastland slip-ons, they are perfect even in bad weather, and today, I’ll add a chunky gray sweater and silver necklace, because it’s finally cold outside.

I have a very similar go to outfit (I also have the Rider jeans!) Mine is Gap dark wash boot cut jeans, long sleeve v neck t(probably in a dark magenta or bugundy) and usually my longer dark gray cardi. Finished off with Dansko clogs or a cute boot with a heel. I’m big on accesorries too…..silver hoop earrings, silver cuff bracelet and eilther a silver or turquoise necklace.

My go-to outfit in the fall includes skinny jeans, ugg boots, long cardigan and some type of pattern top under the cardi. I also love wearing my Converse, but need to find a great pair of jeans to wear with them and the right go-to top.

Comfort is a top priority for me. Soooo…that makes my go-to outfit the most comfortable pair of jeans I own: skinny, dark wash, and a comfy t-shirt, my bright pink American Eagle hoodie, and my tan Ugg knock off boots. Not very dressy but it works for hanging out with friends, relaxing at home, grocery shopping or dinner at Pizza Hut.

i was just thinking of documenting my go-to outfit at this stage and season of life. my husband kinda laughed. :) this stay-at-home homeschoolin’ mama with a chronic illness, my go-to outfit is wide leg trouser jeans, cute simple (but possibly colorful) tee, long cardigan, flats, and scarf (possibly as a turban if my hair is unwashed). i love the look of skinny jeans, but they don’t work with my body shape. trying to decide how this go-to outfit will transition to winter when my flats need to be traded for boots and i need to to avoid wet jeans in the snow and slush.

    (fun series, hayley!)

I love this post. My go-to outfit usually involves black skinnies, a pair of flats, Tshirt and cardigan. Unoriginal but works every time! Inspired by you, I blogged about it today!

my go-to outfit: a pair of skinny jeans, my light blue v-neck from old navy with flowers down the front, and my brown flip flops. i live in michigan, though, which makes this outfit wearable for a total of maybe four months out of the year {if we’re lucky!}. i think i’m going to have to work on getting myself a go-to outfit for winter!

I was wearing mine today! My favorite jeans and a soft v-neck tee. I know I need a scarf or something to “make” it, but I was home all day so I didn’t bother.

As a mum to 2 boys 4 and 5 years old, I need something that lets me move.
My go to are straight leg dark wash jeans, a femenine top that disguises the pudge at the top of my jeans rather than clings there and a heel that I can still easily walk in. About 2 inches is the most for me. I always feel so much more put together if I’m wearing a slight heel as opposed to a ballet flat or flat sandal.

My go-to outfit is: my slightly-stretchy jeans with a bit of flare at the bottom, my burgundy/white stripe long-sleeve T, my favorite necklace (it’s a heart, engraved with my kids’ names!), and a black or brown sweater, or maybe a scarf if it’s not too cold. Wearing my tennis shoes if I’m running errands & walking the kids to school, or my brown leather slip-on shoes if I’m going to come home soon & kick them off again! :)

Great series, I’m enjoying it a lot – haven’t had time to reorganize my closet yet, but I’m keeping your “core” suggestions until I do! Thanks for doing this.

Hmmm…and now you have me thinking. What is my go to outfit?

Great idea for the 31 day series, Haley. Fun visit on my first time here.

Most of my clothes are very new, so I’m not sure. I think the front-runner right now, MUCH to my surprise, is a long-sleeved, striped tee, with my old cameo pendant on a ball chain (a recent combination that I’m LOVING), and my puffer jacket. All with jeans, since I don’t wear anything else, and boots.

Oooo, a STRIPED tee?? :) Way to go, lady! Also, I am dying to get a cameo necklace!
