White t-shirts are the most All-American, age-old, and dependable piece of clothing. There is something nostalgic about popping one over your head, but that doesn’t keep you from looking really current, too.

Since we’re all about a simple, hard-working closet, white t-shirts are a staple for us. We’ve found four of the very best ways to wear your t-shirt this fall. We love it with a white t-shirt, but you could also throw a grey t-shirt on instead.

Before we do anything else, we need to talk about one thing.

Everlane White T-ShirtBecause I love you, I wanted to let you in on my white t-shirt secret weapon. The Cotton Drop Shoulder T from Everlane is, in my opinion, the very best t-shirt on the market for your money. It’s structured, but roomy. It’s not just a boring white t-shirt, it has a little bit of it’s own built in style. I own it (and the same shirt in black and navy). It’s $22, so that’s not as cheap as Old Navy–but you will be so happy with it.

If you want the t-shirt to be more roomy, size up. A lot of my friends have said that works for them. So, go. Order it now.

Now that you’ve ordered the perfect white t-shirt and it’s in the mail on the way to you, we can talk about how to style it. These are the best ways to style t-shirts for fall.

1. Under an army jacket. Extra points for a colorful pattern in the outfit.

2. Half-tucked under a roomy cardi. Wear an awesome necklace, too.

3. Blazer, boyfriend jeans, and sneakers. Throw on an oversized watch, too.

4. Let the t-shirt play second fiddle. Wear an bold bottom (either in shape or color).
