Style Trend Alert: Geometric

By Annie Lempke •  Updated: 03/07/16 •  5 min read

You’ve probably seen it all over the internet lately…geometric designs are very popular right now! What’s there to love about these fun designs and sleek shapes? I’m particularly fond of the way this trend fits so many styles! It seems either very bohemian or modern, but really this trend can easily fit any taste! It’s also reminiscent of diamonds and gems which are beautiful reminders of how God sees us… each beautiful and unique and precious! Wouldn’t you love a reminder of that in your home? Me too! So, how can you incorporate this new trend in your space? And where do you find it? You can shop it, champion artists or make it yourself!  Here are a few ideas…

Shop Geometric:

If you’re looking for angled home goods, you can easily find them in most home stores. Urban Outfitters has some really fun triangle shelves, diamond shaped pendant lights and geometrically patterned rugs. I especially loved this faceted utensil holder which would also make a beautiful vase! Shop Urban Outfitters if you’re looking for a more bohemian look. How can you not be crazy about these geo mirrored objects from West Elm?! They dazzle from the inside out and they are adorned with an antique finish. Shop West for a little more modern/contemporary look, which we talked more about in our bedroom budget post, too. These pretty glass knobs from H&M Home are a quick inexpensive change to make to your dresser shine! Shop H&M Home for a classy vintage style.

Champion Artists:

What does it mean to champion artists? Cheer on the painters, weavers, ceramicists, metal workers and designers! An artist puts their unique perspective, heart and passion into creating a on-of-a-kind beautiful piece to bring joy and life to your home. It’s so meaningful! If you’re looking for a way to incorporate some handmade geometric items in your home, do a search on Etsy, Society6 or look for prints from your favorite artists.

In the gallery above you’ll see 3 awesome art prints from artists using angled shapes. First, Britt Bass’s “Navy Geo” print which features amazing angles as well as pops of color and a soft texture. This work of art would be perfect for a modern space! The black and white “Triangles Poster” from Lovely Poster Etsy offers a bold statement to your room in neutral colors. The “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” print from Naptime Diaries is such a sweet reminder of how God sees us and it comes in two color schemes!

Looking for some handmade home decor for your tables and shelves? The center photo in the gallery above features beautiful geometric glassware of Waen Etsy shop! Don’t you love the versatility of her pieces? Her glassware could be featured in your home as a sculpture or as a utilitarian piece if you use it as a planter or bowl.

You could also support artisans from around the world by buying fair trade goods! “Fair Trade” just means that the artist was paid fairly for the work they’ve done. Artisans in other countries are often not paid fairly. Supporting artists by buying creations at fair costs means providing an income to support an artist and their family! The Citizenry is a great shop to find beautiful handmade fair trade items from around the globe! This wooden Adia Planter is created by artisans in Uganda who continually re-plant trees in the area! I also love The Little Market’s fair trade goodies like this delicate, textural, patterned Knitting Basket! A group of women in Senegal use local grasses to keep traditional practices alive. Wouldn’t you love to support them?

Make it:

Want the look without having to dish out the cash? You can make it yourself! These are some of my favorite DIY projects from around the web. The Geometric Paper Patchwork wall decor is so fun! I could imagine so many color schemes, textures and even patterns. Make a big angled statement wall in any size or style. I am also intrigued by these Hanging Diamonds! Wouldn’t they be fun hanging in the corner of your room to add some visual interest? I love the sculptural element they bring (without the cost!) How awesome is this Geometric Photo Display? You could make it as large or small as you wanted, change the color of the string and continually change the photos! Search “DIY Geometric Decor” on Pinterest for more ideas you can create yourself!

However you incorporate this trend, I think it adds instant meaning and interest to your space!  How will you choose to add geometric designs to your home decor? Will you shop your favorite stores for some lovely finds? How about championing artists locally or around the globe? Or maybe you’ll give one of these awesome DIY projects a try! How ever you incorporate a new trend, remember to do add home decor that you love and that brings you joy everyday. Happy (geometric) decorating!
