Listen. Do you see that little graph dealie on my sidebar? It talks about getting a full-time nurse for Sole Hope, an organization that serves the children and families of Jinja, Uganda in jigger removal. Jiggers are a debilitating parasite that is just accepted as part of life in Jinja. At The Influence Conference, we announced our Giving and Serving arm of The Influence Network. We want to be the hands and the feet that give and serve–and we want to equip women of all sorts of influence to do the same.

I’m here to tell you I’m a little let down. Now, we’re not supposed to do that in my world. The blog world, specifically the Christian women blog world, might be afraid to tell you when things fall short of expectation. But, I’m going to tell you that I’m feeling kind of busted about this project. I’m feeling like I overestimated the reaction that our women would have and the desire they would have to give to make sure jiggers aren’t a painful and shame-filled issue for the women, men, and children of Jinja.

Dru Collie, founder of Sole Hope, wrote a post that brought me to tears and sprung me to action. I immediately called Jessi and said that we had to DO something.

And now, I’m asking you to do the same. Please, let’s do something. By the end of the year, I’d like to have the funds for one nurse full time for one year. I’m believing it’s going to happen.

And here’s how it can be so so easy. Here is where you can get involved!

It’s social shopping. You pay nothing. Pure Charity has worked with so many online vendors so that a portion of your purchases go into a Pure Charity giving account–and then you can back the project of your choice. We’d SO hope you’d choose to back Sole Hope this Christmas season.

Pure Charity has even made a browser plugin that will automatically “collect” your rewards and save them up when you shop at your favorite stores!

So, here’s my “ask” for your Christmas shopping season:

1. Sign up here, watch a few short videos, and learn how to become a shopper for social good. Make sure to install the browser plugin!

2. Shop at your favorite stores like normal. Cross off your Christmas Shopping List–and rack up the $$ for giving.

3. Use your “giving fund” to fund our first giving project with Sole Hope. We have $4,425 to raise by December 31st.

4. Continue to partner with Pure Charity and fund all sorts of projects across the globe and in your backyard. Pure Charity works heavily with adopting families, too!

If you are on the fence, please read about why this is such a pressing issue to me. I literally can’t stand to think of not helping. Can you?

pure-charity-4And just to get you started, you can see that J. Crew offers a really generous 5% of all you spend to your giving fund. They are offering 25% off winter favorites right now, too–so head over there and grab some sweaters and stocking stuffers.

You are also totally welcome to totally skip the social shopping and just straight give to the project. We’d be so grateful and we’re really committed to bringing the story of how this nurse helps so many!
