no brainer wardrobe :: day 25 learn where to shop

Rachel mentioned in the comments something I wanted to highlight.  It is a total “less fuss” kind of tip.

Learn Where to Shop

Our bodies are all different.  I mentioned in this post that I cannot wear clothes from J.Crew.  This fact nearly breaks my heart.  Truly.  Their lookbooks are like works of art to me, and it pains me to know that nothing but the cardigans would look good on my real, actual body.

But, I do know that generally Old Navy skinny pants look great on me.  I can wear most anything from the petite section of Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft.  Gap jeans look great in the store, but they stretch too much during the day for me to be really happy with them.  I do go to Gap for spiffed up basics.

Wait for Clearance if You Must

I love the dresses at Anthropologie, but, I do not generally shop on an Anthro budget.  So, to find something fancy with a great fit I will start in the clearance section of Anthropologie.  Betsy mentioned in the comments that she loves the fit at Eddie Bauer, but has to wait for it to hit the sales.  There is nothing wrong with that shopping strategy at all!  In fact, it really is so smart.  You just have to make sure to snap up the things that are really important to you or be willing to be more flexible with the style you are looking for.  However, clothes that fit well are worth a premium (whether in time or money…whichever you have more of!).

Action Items:

*Think on where you consistently have the best luck shopping.

*Would you mind sharing in the comments the stores that work best for you and why?  This might help someone else!  If you have any details or thoughts you want to add, that would be great.  Like, if you are pear shaped and find that the jeans at such and such store work great…share that!

*Think on where you are consistently disappointed.  Save time and fuss next shopping trip and avoid that store.  Unless of course it’s J.Crew and you are like me…you go for the inspiration and suffer the self-imposed misery!  :)
