Meeting Ruth

Today we met the sweet woman who has called "our house" "her home" for the last 34 years.  We met at closing, and we hugged–knowing she had loved well in her house and now I was going to do the same.  We talked about family, and babies, and what I was going to do to update the house.  It was really a special time for me–and it's so good to know so much love happened here.  I loved, also, hearing about the little changes they made over the years.  I'd die to see pictures of the house when their children were small.

We both had power of attorney to sign for our husbands' at closing, so without them it was a lot of girl talk (and signing, of course).

I love every piece of this house so much more knowing the dear woman who made it a home.  I will love this house and more importantly love people well in this house…and it seems that is exactly what Ruth has done.

We talked about having them to dinner sometime around Christmas, when their children would be in town.  I hope we do that, because I would love to hear more stories of the laughs and joy that this house has held.

Meeting Ruth has been a really special part of choosing this house. Our house in North Carolina was built new for us, and it didn't have a sense of history.  On one hand, we got to start the history of that house.  But on the other hand, it's nice to pick up where someone else left off.

Ruth, thank you for your love and your stories and your heart and your PATIENCE.  We would be good friends and it's good to know that a kindred spirit lived here before me.  Thank you for blessing us with your home.
