I have to tell you, of all the things I’ve started what I’m most proud of is The Influence Conference.
It’s not a money maker, but it is a place where a whole community of women can gather together, see each other face to face. They can learn from the women they look up to, they can dig into the deep stuff that’s difficult to convey across a screen, they can sit and share a cup of coffee.
The Influence Conference was born out of a need Jessi Connolly and I felt for an encouraging community that didn’t look like anything else we’d come across. We had friends who made beautiful things and sold them online, we had friends writing beautifully about things like having babies and growing gardens. Our friends were flat out creative in a way we hadn’t seen before.
This was the first group of women we really saw seeking influence rather than just stumbling upon it. The generation of women before us online seemed to happen upon a large readership (but obviously stewarded it and grew it well). But our online peers were starting for the purpose of sharing with a broader audience, to cultivate a genuine community, or to augment their family’s income. These women were starting intentionally, and it was lovely to see.
Every year we hear from women who want to come, but finances stand in the way. Annie Wiltse wrote an AMAZING post if that’s a problem you’re running into.
But, we also devised a fun way to help one person get the WHOLE experience for totally free. Our community leaders, speakers, and core team have all joined forces and piled our resources to provide one person the total experience for FREE. I’m extremely proud of the way our community comes together to create these types of opportunities.
