I’ve never really needed glasses. I can fake-like I can read at the 20/20 line of an eye test. I can discern what the letters are by the basic shapes and guess from there, usually getting them mostly right.

Previously, I wanted glasses like 3rd graders want braces…because they LOOK SO COOL.

But, recently, I’ve been noticing some eye-fatigue by the end of the day and also some new fine lines around my eyes. Since I do so much computer work, my eyes were so tired by the time I pushed away my work for the day. I was starting to get little headaches by the end of the day, and with all this added together I figured it was time to get my eyes rechecked.

Now, with a full life, the idea of making another appointment, at another doctor, who bills in it’s own separate way, sounded like something I just didn’t need right now. Can I just get some solidarity with how annoying medical bills are? So complicated and confusing.

Anyway! I procrastinated for AGES, because I just couldn’t bring myself to go to the eye-doctor. BUT, finally I remembered SuperTarget has an eye-clinic in the store AND I realized you can make an appointment online! (What is wrong with me? I didn’t used to hate to call people, but now…I blame texting.)

So, once I got my appointment made it was an EASY PEASY process that took about 20 minutes total. I showed up at my appointment time, went through the exam, and I mentioned I was buying the frames elsewhere. They totally understood and immediately handed me a sheet that had my Rx and my PD (pupillary distance, something online optical retailers will want). It was THAT easy. And, it only cost $60 (even without vision insurance!).

I had known I wanted to use David Kind for my frames. They had sponsored Influence last year, and I had gotten a chance to talk to the founder Dave. I LOVED his thoughts about eyeglasses and eye-care. He believes that there is still value in someone who understands optics and what looks good on you, versus just a simple online transaction. We don’t need to be spread so thin trying to DIY everything–sometimes it really is a load off your mind to leave some things to the expert. David Kind is like the Internet’s proverbial local optometrist.

That’s why David Kind is so much fun. You go through their process, pick several frames YOU love, and then they pair you up with a stylist who fills in the rest of your box with frames they think would look awesome based on your face-shape and coloring. They will ALSO call your eye doctor and get your Rx and PD, because sometimes the eye doc feels a little pushy on buying the frames in-house. David Kind is the king of making this happen.

Our Influence team was getting together for a retreat, and we took that time pilfer each other’s David Kind glasses to try ALLLLLL of the frames on. :) It was so much fun. It would be a perfect girls’ night activity…that way you get to try on even more than the 6 frames sent to you. Plus, we got to tell each other what ones we loved on each other. It was seriously the most fun ever. I think Moriah and I ended up both getting the Clover frames, but she got the tortoise-shell color because it suits her coloring just like the grey suits mine. :)

I ended up picking the Clover Frames in Grey, got a sassy new haircut, and feel 1000% better about life. It was the easiest thing around to do. I made an appointment with the Target optic center, took 25 minutes to get my eyes examined and a Rx written, and then did my grocery shopping. Easy as pie.

I have a pair of Warby Parker frames (and I loved them when I got them), but the David Kind ones are sturdier and the lenses are nicer…these are high quality boutique type glasses. I kind of want to get another pair just for fun. ;)
