no brainer wardrobe :: wearing a uniform

Have you noticed how some of the most stunningly stylish women are also the most seemingly effortless? Well, women who look amazing rarely ever look fussy. Think of Olivia Palermo or Blake Lively, they have an almost thrown together/put together mash-up. The most effective way I’ve found to do this is to have a few basic “uniforms” and work from there. In my “uniforms”, I know very specifically what works for me. I don’t mess around with my staple pieces.

My uniform #1:

Black skinny jeans (NOT jeggings…I like a little more structure to my bottoms!)

Chambray button down (slightly oversized)

Pair of black or brown booties

Fun and quirky added style pieces:

Brass Necklace

Longer Necklace

A stack of these rad bracelets

Structured Bangle

There are plenty of other things I can do to add to this really simple uniform. I could add a vest, a cardi, a jacket. I could layer the chambray shirt over a v-neck tshirt and then belt it all. I could wear a sequiny shirt over the chambray with the tails and collar sticking out a little. So many options. The gist of a uniform is, though, that you are so confident in the basic structure of the outfit that you can branch out and feel good no matter what.

Here are some things I know I ALWAYS feel good in.

What do you feel good in, no matter what? Do you have a go-to uniform? If you don’t have a single set-up that you feel GREAT in, I’d suggest you do your best to find some basic pieces, no matter how simple. You can always jazz up the outfit, but it’s good to know you have something you can fall back on and build from!
