I grew up just miles from where my parents grew up.
As of now, my boys are growing up just miles from where I grew up.
In fact, I grew up right along with this town. There was nothing but cornfields on both sides of a two-lane road. Now, this area is coming into it’s own. The local high school split and is talking about splitting again…just to make room for all those kids.
I know that feeling.
I live less than 2 miles from my grandparents land–and less than a mile from Mike’s grandparents.
Where we live now is thoroughly, through and through, absolutely home. home. home.
And, isn’t there always a but? But, what if we get called away? What if we get an itch to adventure? What if we can’t stay here forever. I feel equally divided between never wanting to leave and never dreaming of staying.
Being here isn’t about a place, because one could certainly find a more ideal location.
Our backyard is what my mind’s eye saw when it dared to dream of having 4 boys. It’s the place where imaginations go wild and sticks become swords. How could I ever leave that?
I’m not sure how long we’ll be here. I’ve learned to hold those sorts of things with open hands. But, for now, Indiana is home.
I’m linking up with The Influence Network for the Local Linkup. If you’ve been thinking about joining the Network, now would be a GREAT time! We just launched the first issue of the Magazine and the Conference is coming up so soon!!
